Last night I popped along to the launch of the exhibition for The Banshu Project II - a program that facilitates select graduates from WA's fashion programs collaborating with textile manufacturers in Japan to create unique fabrics using traditional weaving techniques. The five designers (Jade Facchin, Ellen Lund, Cynthia Chong, Imogen Duxbury & Jameen Zalfren) have developed highly varied works that really highlight the importance of textile within the design process, something I think we all sometimes forget in this world of digital print.
Definitely worth a squiz!
The Banshu Project exhibition as part of Perth Fashion Festival

Ps. It was mentioned that next year Aurelio Costarella is taking part as an industry guest collaborator, can't wait to see the results of that!! If you're a WA recent fashion grad or emerging designer I would strongly encourage you to apply cos not only do you get to go to Japan to design amazing textiles, you get to go to Japan to design amazing textiles WITH COSTARELLA. Sweeeeeet.
