Collection by Nicole Marrington
Collection by Jessica Hogg
As part of Perth Fashion Festival's student runway event, shown at Perth museum (the main festival venue, which was an excellent setup - an L shaped runway allowed for two media pits so there was no awkward real photographer vs blogger clash & the soaring ceilings were spectacular. Bit bummed the life sized dinosaur in the foyer had been hidden behind screens but you can't win them all), three of last years award winners were invited back to show us more of what they've got. Nicole Marrington & Jessica Hogg showed wildly different, yet equally mature, collections. Nicole's soft tailoring and layers were inspired by Mongolian nomads, Jessica's ethereal yet strong silhouettes detailed with art deco lines. The third - Samuel Donaldson's menswear collection - felt a bit less developed, despite striking styling (convict zombies, just putting it out there). I don't think he's quite shrugged the student curse of too-many-ideas-at-once, but I'll be interested to see what he does next.
